Karen Lin
Board President
Karen Lin is Founding President of Green Room Theatre Company (GRTC). She is a National Board Certified teacher and a California State Credentialed teacher who taught a variety of grades for ten years in Los Angeles Unified School District. During this time, she taught theatre, dance, music, and visual art as part of LAUSD's pioneering, standards-based Arts Prototype Program. In 2002 Karen was named a Getty Fellow in the Educators' Art Study Program at the Getty Museum.
As a theatre artist, Karen has produced and directed numerous children's plays for middle school, upper elementary, and primary school actors. In addition to directing and teaching, she has written and directed several short plays and musicals, including songs and lyrics. Karen was media designer for At Risk at College of the Desert, which won a Desert Star award for Best Production. She also designed the set for the world premiere of seven short plays by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzanne Lori Parks for the 365 Days, 365 Plays national project in 2007.
Desert Charities News recognized Karen in Fall, 2019 as one of the desert's leading Women in Philanthropy. She serves as a Community Partner for the Ophelia Project and Advisory Board Member for John Glenn Middle School in Indio. Irene Creighton
Board Member/Parent Volunteer Coordinator/Secretary
Irene has been Green Room Theatre's Parent Volunteer Coordinator since 2015. She has always helped whenever and wherever needed and now, during productions, spends quality time assisting with costumes, helping with sets, props, ticket and concession sales, ads, and other graphic design projects. She is also Secretary on the GRTC Board of Directors.
She is co-owner of Thai Smile of Rancho Mirage (now on El Paseo), a popular desert eatery. They moved to Palm Desert when their restaurant in Rancho Mirage was scheduled for demolition due to much needed shopping center updates and improvements. She and her husband Matthew have both been in the restaurant business for over 20 years.
Along with her background in graphics, she has art directed, been in sales, management, marketing, manufacturing, worked in Europe, negotiated with movie studios for games and merchandise, proofed and edited manuscripts, and more along with being an award winning writer. She has also volunteered with her son's schools and his marching band at PDCMS and is continuing that tradition at Palm Desert high school. She also helps with various productions he is in lending a hand- or two- when help is needed including Starlight Dance Center where her son, Bennett, has taken dance since 2013. Additionally, Irene coached theatre performances for four years for Odyssey of the Mind which is an international student collaborative problem-solving competition. In 2016, she led her team to Odyssey's World Competition where the team placed second in the World in the Performance category.
She is also very active in the Desert Sands Educational Foundation where she's been closely involved in organizing signature events such as the Hike 4 Education and CAMFest. Her strong belief in the importance of communication and inclusion along with finding solutions to problems that can and do arise while keeping a positive attitude make her a dynamic team member and leader in all her endeavors.

Stephen Merritt performs daily in front of a packed house teaching fourth grade at Martin Van Buren Elementary School; but Steve’s entertainment career started years ago when he was a student at the University of Toronto. There he studied theatre, produced and directed numerous original plays, and co-produced a 13-part educational television series on William Shakespeare which aired on TV Ontario. After graduation, Steve managed Canada’s first pay tv network for Roger’s Cablesystems and later, while managing Roger’s Cablesystems of California, became Executive Producer of Cloris Leachman's “Perfectly Frank” for Showtime Networks and the La Mirada Civic Theater. In the early-90’s Steve moved to Palm Springs to manage the conversion of the desert’s cable system to fiber optic cable, the expansion of its channel lineup, and its eventual sale to Time Warner Cable. In 1998, Steve retired from business to found the non-profit corporation, Community Gardens of the Coachella Valley, where he oversaw the construction of fifteen community gardens in the Coachella Valley and was the subject of an HGTV half hour program. In 2003 he entered Chapman University’s Masters of Education program and began his career teaching the children of low income farm workers.

Leigh Tomasko

Leigh Tomasko moved to the Coachella Valley in 2006 and has been a Green Room Theatre Company board member since 2016. She will be graduating from California State University, San Bernardino in 2021 and then plans to teach middle school science.
Additional volunteering commitments have included being an active member in the Site Council committees at the schools her son, Owen, has attended. She was the Site Council representative for James Monroe Elementary and La Quinta Middle School at the Desert Sands Unified School District’s District Advisory Committee. Currently she is the Corresponding Secretary for the DSUSD DAC and also Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the La Quinta Middle School’s Bulldog Band Boosters.

His investigative cover story for California Lawyer Magazine on probate abuses was read into the Congressional Record during US Senate hearings on elder abuse. He has written and produced several documentaries, excerpted on MTV and 60 Minutes.

For continued professional development, Dee participated in Toastmasters educational program for communication and leadership advancing to Gold Communicator and Silver Leadership achieving Distinguished Toastmaster DTM in 2019. Her professional background is in technical sales and works at a corporation that specializes in scientific technology and has been a sales professional for over twenty years.
There is also a parent perspective from Dee as a former theater parent during her son’s high school years. Her son was positively influenced in a direction where he started his career path in visual communications and pursued opportunities to exhibit his art in New York and London. She sees that theater played an important role in the growth and future of her own son.
Dee enjoys the opportunity to serve our community as a board member and finds that Green Room Theatre Company offers important skills to help students learn to further develop their acting, communications, confidence, teamwork, and production skills in a very supportive program. She believes that Green Room's program encourages people to prepare for their future in the performing arts or wherever their career may take them.

David Anderson
Board Member
David is an accomplished Human Resources Professional, bringing many years of
hands-on experience specializing in Start-Ups, Hi-Growth, Turbulent and
Transitioning Organizations. A relatively new permanent resident of Palm Springs,
David is becoming very active in several organizations here in the greater Coachella
Valley.
Originally from Ohio, David’s intentions were to become an English teacher. He
finished college at Bowling Green State University with a BA in “Interpersonal &
Public Communications,” and a double minor in “Mass Media” and “Popular
Culture.” Starting out in a Food & Beverage management position with a global chain in New Orleans, he moved onward and upward at a number of Hospitality organizations (Radisson, Hilton, Marriott, and InterContinental Hotels). After being promoted and transferred across the country, he landed in Hollywood, California. It was there that he was able to combine his love of TV and Films while working in HR
for a number of mass media companies (Warner Bros., DIRECTV, 20 th Century Fox/News Corporation, E! Entertainment Television/NBCUniversal Cable, The Walt Disney Company). Most recently, he was the ninth executive hired at ReelzChannel,
LLC (the largest cable network “All About Movies!” launch in television history) that
grew to a staff of over 500 in their first year on the air!
His passion for the Theatrical Arts goes back to community shows in Cincinnati and Toledo, high school and college performances in various musicals and comedies, and managing a working cantina with an intimate performance space on the BGSU
campus.

Brendan Blanchette

Brendan Michael Blanchette is a substitute teacher within Palm Springs Unified School District. He graduated Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelors in Theatre. In addition to performing roles such as “Golde” in Fiddler on the Roof, “Nancy” in Oliver!, and “Frederick” in The Pirates of Penzance, Clare went on to attend high school at Orange County School of the Arts in the Creative Writing Conservatory where they focused on experimental playwriting, creative non-fiction, and workshopping performance. In addition to their love of theatre, Clare is a devoted psychological researcher hoping to earn a PhD following their residency at Green Room Theatre Company. At UCSC, Clare studied advanced qualitative research methods, social justice psychology, gender and sexuality, trauma and neurodivergency, and childhood development. Their research focuses on crafting “Brave Spaces” in classrooms and rehearsal spaces using documented trauma-informed organizational methods and open space learning, inspired at large by the Sanford Meisner technique and Augusto Boals’ Theatre of the Oppressed.
In addition to their role at GRTC, Clare is the current Production Manager for Barn Rat Theatre Company- an all-inclusive theatre collective born in the age of COVID-19. Clare is honored to be back at Green Room Theatre Company as a Board Member, and they are incredibly excited to give back to the community that gave them the tools to succeed.

Jeffrey Bledsoe is originally from Indiana and grew up working at his family-owned resort on Lake James. After graduating from Hillsdale College in Michigan with a double major in Theatre and Business Administration-Finance, Jeff worked for three years at the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, Michigan, which presented professional summer stock theatre and also served as a regional arts center. Moving east to continue his education, he received an MFA in Theater Management from Yale School of Drama.
After receiving his degree, Jeffrey began working in the Manhattan Theatre Club business office, where he remained for 11 years as the Business Manager. After a year as the Director of Finance for Symphony Space, Jeff returned in July 2005 to assume the same position at Manhattan Theatre Club. From 2011-2013, he served as the Director of Finance for Frankel Green Theatrical Management, supervising the financial activity for Broadway, off-Broadway, and touring productions. After serving as Director of Finance and Administration for the dance company Pilobolus, Jeff is now the Director of Finance for Signature Theatre in New York. Since 1999, he has also taught Non-Profit Accounting to the first-year students in the Yale School of Drama Theatre Management program. Jeff lives in New Jersey with his husband, Tim Salamandyk.

Presently, she maintains several key positions with companies in the greater Coachella Valley, where her commitments include modernizing accounting procedures and holding a financial responsibility of up to $1.5 million.
Lilly enjoys traveling, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends. She recently participated in a table reading of To Kill a Mockingbird, hosted at Barnes & Noble. She currently resides in Palm Desert with her husband, Chad, and her three cats: Baby, Waffles, and Smokey.

Patti Gribow
Advisory Board Member
Patti Gribow has been in business for over 20 years in the Coachella Valley and is known for leading with integrity. Currently she is Realtor working with Valery Neuman Real Estate, and recently earned the designation of Christie’s International Real Estate Luxury Specialist 2017. Patti is a seasoned communicator and brings these skills to the table as a realtor, and has built a solid clientele due to trusted relationships with friends and business associates.
In prior years Patti worked in the entertainment industry on camera in television with the likes of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Henry Winkler. This past decade as CEO of Gribow Entertainment, Patti has produced and/or hosted over 300 TV shows including interviews with Dan Rather, Judy Woodruff, Gloria Allred, Jane Seymour, Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Senator John McCain.
Gribow believes that service to the community is not a choice, but an obligation. Her advocacy for women has earned her numerous awards including a Palm Desert Athena Award, Women Leaders Forum Lifetime Achievement Award, and the George Berkey Palm Desert Citizen of the Year Award. She has been honored by Soroptimist International of Palm Desert-Sunrise, and the National League of American Pen Women.
In addition, she has served as a Member of the Board of Counselors for the University of Southern California School of Dramatic Arts. Currently Patti is Past President of Palm Springs Women in Film and Television, as well as, a member of the Advisory Board of Women Leaders Forum.
Lynn Schwimmer

Lynn is a theatre teacher at John Glenn Middle School.
